Regional Boardroom Lessons

Abstract

While women’s representation on Government Boards has been increasing as a result of policy initiatives, little research has been conducted about the experience of diversity on these boards. Within a regional location these boards and not for profit boards play a critical role in the economic and social wellbeing of their communities. Appointment to government and not for profit boards can be a pathway to other board roles, especially in regional communities where they often represent the most high profile boards. This paper is based on an exploratory study of three regional boards (two government and one not for profit board) to understand the experiences of the board members as to how diversity is being enacted on these boards.
