Abstract: In this thesis, L2 phonological word form representation and processing was investigated in late bilinguals. This was achieved by looking at the influence of L1 phonology on the developing L2 phonological word form lexicon, whether L2 lexical access was competitive or not, and the development of cognitive control through the use of inhibition in the bilingual context. Over the course of five experiments, the word production performance of German and Icelandic participants who were late bilinguals in English was observed and compared to monolingual performance.
