Abstract: Change is a powerful force in education in Aotearoa New Zealand, and negotiating the whitewater of new policy directives and initiatives is a constant for principals, teachers and school communities.
In recent years, we have seen a raft of changes, including:
'Teaching as Inquiry (http://nzcurriculum.tki.org.nz/Curriculum-stories/Case-studies/Teachers-as-learners- Inquiry/Teaching-as-inquiry)' (arguably a sophisticated form of pastoral control (http://rdcu.be/ty6r))
Mandated National Standards (http://nzcurriculum.tki.org.nz/National-Standards) being implemented
Increased control of professional learning and development (PLD) provision
Additional layers of leadership inserted with Communities of Learning | Kāhui Ako (https://education.govt.nz/news/about-communities-of-learning-kahui-ako/)
And even 'change managers (https://kahuiako.education.govt.nz/domains/domain-6/changemanagement- support/)' appointed by the Ministry of Education to assist school leaders with this constant transformation.
