English Abstract: What is more well-known than our own body? We are here thanks to our body; we live thanks to our body. This is exactly what socio-cultural studies are about: making the familiar strange. According to Kirk (2002) making sense of the body is just part of our routine and taken-for-granted social behaviour. This chapter aims to reflect about different socio-cultural perspectives to think about the body in general, and in Physical Education settings in particular. Specific ways to think about the body have been privileged, as any other discursive construction that we take for granted (Wright, 2000). In doing so, it is essential to conduct an extensive literature review about the topic being questioned. This text also reflects on the decisions made in time in order to decide which authors are taking into consideration for a review of literature.
