Abstract: Professional Learning Using the Mathematics Standards (PLUMS) aimed to demonstrate the utility of the AAMT standards as a basis for developing professional learning plans for teachers and schools. Teams of teachers from eight schools, four primary and four high schools, planned and implemented a program of professional learning based on their own school's needs. The teachers were supported by a team of Academic Partners. From the perspective of the Academic Partner, this role can be problematic. Some of the difficulties are discussed and some ways of working productively within this framework are considered.
