Title: | MODET: A modular model for estimating spatially distributed evapotranspiration, surface temperature and energy balance | Contributor(s): | Punthakey, JF (author); Milne-Home, W (author); Yunusa, Isa (author); Theiveyanathan, T (author); Prathapar, SA (author) | Publication Date: | 2011 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/9681 | Abstract: | Competition for water: • Oct 2011 - World population reaches 7 billion. • 2042 - Population is projected to reach 9 billion. • Increased demands on our land and water resources to produce more food, more biofuels and more forest products. • Water resources are already over allocated. • Agriculture uses around 70 percent of all freshwater withdrawals worldwide and is by far the biggest consumer of both surface and groundwater. • Agriculture will face more competition from industrial, mining and urban users, putting greater pressure on achieving more efficient use of water for crop production. Environmental Impact: • Intense competition for water will mean less water for the environment. Policy Impact: • Coping with climate change • Accessing groundwater storage • Increased risk to food & water security | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | NSW IAH Symposium 2011: NSW International Association of Hydrogeologists Groundwater Symposium 2011, Sydney, Australia, 5th - 6th September, 2011 | Source of Publication: | Presented at the NSW International Association of Hydrogeologists Groundwater Symposium | Place of Publication: | Online | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 050299 Environmental Science and Management not elsewhere classified | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 960699 Environmental and Natural Resource Evaluation not elsewhere classified | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E3 Extract of Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://www.3pillarsnetwork.com/kb/modet-iah-es-1109-2011.pdf |
