Title: | Supporting discovery-driven exploration from a land use, cover and change model | Contributor(s): | Dunstan, Neil (author); Qiang, Xiaoyun (author) | Publication Date: | 2008 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/9301 | Abstract: | Land Use Cover and Change models are popular tools for monitoring the environmental effects of human activity on the earth. This paper focuses on a hydrology and economic model of a catchment area as a tool to support decision making about land use. The model simulates the effects of land uses on the level of the water table and the effects of salinity on yields and profits. The model can simulate effects for years into the future. The data generated can support discovery-driven exploration of the data in the manner of Online Analytical Processing. Interactive users can view summaries across different dimensions of the data. Dimensions can include time, land use, soil type, elevation, rainfall and salinity levels. This paper also describes an approach to computing summaries based on bitmap indexing and set operations. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | IAALD/AFITA/WCCA 2008: 12th World Congress of the International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists, 6th Conference of the Asian Federation of Information Technology in Agriculture and 6th World Congress on Computers in Agriculture, Tokyo, Japan, 24th - 28th August, 2008 | Source of Publication: | Agricultural Information and IT: Proceedings of IAALD AFITA WCCA2008, p. 785-790 | Publisher: | International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists (IAALD) | Place of Publication: | Tokyo, Japan | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 080605 Decision Support and Group Support Systems | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 960904 Farmland, Arable Cropland and Permanent Cropland Land Management | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E1 Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://www.cabi.org/gara/FullTextPDF/2008/20083298077.pdf |
