Title: | Why multi-class education can be good education | Contributor(s): | Cornish, Linley (author) | Publication Date: | 2010 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/7920 | Abstract: | Multi-class teaching is challenging. A teacher must concurrently satisfy the demands of two different grades in the same classroom. In spite of the increased teacher workload and the reduced time for direct instruction of each grade, student achievement in a mixed-grade class has consistently been shown to be similar to ahcievement in a single-grade class. In this paper I examine why this might be so by examining current ideas about learning and how they are related to some of the strategies routinely used by effective multi-class teachers. Issues and challenges for multi-class teachers will also be discussed. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | National Education Conference 2010, Lautoka, Fiji, 22nd - 24th November, 2010 | Source of Publication: | Presented at the National Education Conference 2010: Education for a new Fiji | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 130311 Pacific Peoples Education 130202 Curriculum and Pedagogy Theory and Development 130105 Primary Education (excl Maori) |
