Title: | Rhetorical Patterns of Indonesian Research Articles: A Genre of Indonesian Academic Writing | Contributor(s): | Adnan, Zifirdaus (author) | Publication Date: | 2010 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/7402 | Abstract: | Genre Study of research articles (RAs) is a significant field of research as a great deal of theses, articles and books have been published on it. This is because writing and publication of research articles is not only important for the advancement of knowledge, but also for career of many individuals, and even the international scientific reputation of a nation. Published studies on research articles written by academics from Indonesia, the fourth largest nation on earth and a member of the G-Twenty Group, are still very few. This book is the first comprehensive study ever been published to fill this gap. This book came from a PhD study conducted at Curtin University, Perth, Australia. It analyses the discourse structures of RA introductions, citation behaviour, and voices of the authors. In other words, it examines discourse practices of academics in Indonesia. It presents three discourse structures commonly used by authors in major disciplines, and also provides an explanation for the practices. In addition, the book provides a survey of writing guides. It is useful for both academics and students studying academic writing and discourse analysis. | Publication Type: | Book | Publisher: | VDM Verlag Dr Müller | Place of Publication: | Saarbrücken, Germany | ISBN: | 3639063341 9783639063349 |
