Abstract:

The title of Fregoso's Anteros (1496) appears in major bibliographic reference works in two different versions, one with a subtitle and one without, leading to confusion in the citation and interpretation of this work. Reasons are given for accepting the simpler version of the title as the correct one and for treating the purported subtitle as a mid-twentieth century misinterpretation of earlier cataloguers' annotations.
