Title: | Protecting Privacy in Genetic Databases | Contributor(s): | Giggins, Helen (author); Brankovic, Ljiljana (author) | Publication Date: | 2003-07 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/63411 | Abstract: | Many countries around the world are currently putting a lot of effort and resources into genetic technology. Australia is no exception. This initiative is seen as particularly important in order to "improve the health of the Australian population, to build economy and to create valuable job" [6]. The expectations from genetic research are immense and wide ranging. They include improvement in diagnosis of disease, detection of genetic predisposition to disease, development in gene therapy and the design of drugs tailored to an individual's genetic make-up [21]. Therefore, genetic research is currently receiving vast amount of funding. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | EMAC 2003: The 6th Engineering Mathematics and Applications Conference, Sydney, Australia, 7th - 11th July, 2003 | Source of Publication: | Proceedings of the 6th Engineering Mathematics and Applications Conference (EMAC2003), p. 73-78 | Publisher: | Engineering Mathematics Group, ANZIAM | Place of Publication: | Australia | Fields of Research (FoR) 2020: | 460402 Data and information privacy | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2020: | 220405 Cybersecurity | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E1 Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication |
