Abstract:

Tackling the affordable and social housing challenge requires a comprehensive and coordinated approach. By combining policy, finance and physical infrastructure, and by fostering strategic partnerships, it is possible to make significant progress towards ensuring that everyone has access to affordable and suitable housing. This is both a social imperative as well as an economic one, as a stable and affordable housing market contributes to overall economic stability and growth and must be considered a fundamental right for all Australians. A think tank comprised of senior academics, government, private and community sectors generated a series of challenges, solutions and the need for Multi-Sectoral Systems Approach (MSSA) which are reported in this white paper.
