dc.description.abstract | The estimated amount of food waste in Australia is 7.5 million tonnes annually. This has a negative impact on the environment and represents a significant economic loss (Torrisi, 2014). Thus, there is renewed interest in utilizing food waste as animal feed. Results from previous studies have illustrated the possibility of producing chicken feed from food waste in Australia that meet hygiene and chemical safety standards (Dao et al., 2019). Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the commercial value of poultry feed produced from recycled food waste. To begin this evaluation, nutrient levels of various food waste sources were compared to common poultry feed ingredients and a pilot study was completed in layer hens. | en |
