Comparison of wood shavings and chopped straw as bedding material for fur-farmed American mink (Neovison vison)

Abstract

<p>Wood shavings or chopped straw in American mink dams' nests did not affect kit survivability (<i>P</i> ≥ 0.51). Straw-housed male kits were lighter at 6 wk (<i>P</i> = 0.01). Shavings nests were better constructed (all <i>P</i> ≤ 0.05); more nest box shavings were lost with juvenile mink (<i>P</i> < 0.01).</p>
