Title: | Genetic relationships between carcase composition and meat quality in Australian pigs | Contributor(s): | Hermesch, S (author) ; Luxford, B G (author); Graser, H-U (author) | Publication Date: | 1995 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/31375 | Abstract: | To be successful in today's markets the meat quality and carcase composition of pork carcases must be of a high standard. Most selection programs consider leanness as the optimum characteristic of the carcase and neglect meat quality. In doing so this may lead to problems of poor pork quality. The inclusion of carcase composition and meat quality in a breeding program requires knowledge of the genetic correlations between these characteristics. The aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for carcase composition and meat quality in Australian Large White and Landrace pigs. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | APSA 1995: 5th Biennial Conference of the Australasian Pig Science Association, Canberra, Australia, 30th June - 4th July, 2008 | Source of Publication: | Manipulating Pig Production V: Proceedings of the 5th Biennial Conference of the Australian Pig Science Association, p. 259-259 | Publisher: | Australian Pig Science Association | Place of Publication: | Werribee, Australia | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 070201 Animal Breeding | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 830308 Pigs | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E3 Extract of Scholarly Conference Publication |
