Abstract: Nonlinear modeling, which showed the occurrence of deterministic chaos, has had a pivotal and stimulating effect on our understanding of diverse processes. May (1974, 1975, 1976, 1981a, 1981b, 1986, 1995) introduced nonlinear modeling into population ecology.
