Title: | Representing Verbal Semantics with Diagrams: An Adaptation of the UML for Lexical Semantics | Contributor(s): | Schalley, A (author) | Publication Date: | 2004 | DOI: | 10.3115/1220355.1220468 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/1028 | Abstract: | The paper presents a new way of accounting for a diagrammatic notation based on the Unified Modeling Language (UML). We will introduce the new framework by outlining some modeling elements and indicating major differences to the UML. An extended example will be discussed in more detail. We will then focus on the cognitive background of the framework, and in particular address the question why the usage of graphical elements within a linguistic modeling language proves to be very fruitful. Finally, we will briefly indicate the potential of the newframework and its applicability. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | COLING 2004: 20th International Conference on Computational Linguistics, Geneva, Switzerland, 23rd - 27th August, 2004 | Source of Publication: | Proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Computational Linguistics (COLING), p. 785-791 | Publisher: | Association for Computational Linguistics | Place of Publication: | East Stroudsburg, United States of America | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 200408 Linguistic Structures (incl Grammar, Phonology, Lexicon, Semantics) | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E1 Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication |
