Title: | Sow Health Influences Piglet Survival | Contributor(s): | Bunter, Kim L (author); Tabuaciri, Poasa (author) | Publication Date: | 2011 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/9843 | Abstract: | Identifying factors which affect piglet survival can help producers develop interventions and management strategies to reduce pre-weaning mortality. While puerperal disease affects subsequent fertility and litter size of sows (Hoy, 2006), Gerjets and Kempter (2009) suggested that the primary economic impact of post-parturient problems is via increased pre-weaning mortality of piglets. We hypothesis that both pre- and post-farrowing sow characteristics can be identified which are indicative risk factors for their piglets' survival until weaning and examine a range of potentially important sow level factors in a multivariate context. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | APSA 2011: 13th Biennial Conference of the Australasian Pig Science Association, Adelaide, Australia, 27th - 30th November, 2011 | Source of Publication: | Proceedings of the Thirteenth Biennial Conference of the Australasian Pig Science Association (APSA), p. 99-99 | Publisher: | Australasian Pig Science Association Inc | Place of Publication: | Werribee, Australia | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 070202 Animal Growth and Development 070201 Animal Breeding |
