Title: | Optical dating of post-European settlement channel change: Gilmore Creek, southeastern Australia | Contributor(s): | Page, K (author); Frazier, Paul (author); Pietsch, T (author); Dehaan, R (author) | Publication Date: | 2007 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/9686 | Abstract: | A combination of single grain Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) dating and historical records shows that a major change in the channel morphology of Gilmore Creek occurred early in the period since European settlement of its catchment. By about 1880 the late Holocene sinuous, small-capacity channel was infilled with sand and abandoned and then replaced by a high capacity bedload-dominated system. Our results demonstrate the value of single grain OSL methods for dating post-European settlement channel change in southern Australia. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | 5ASM 2007: 5th Annual Australian Stream Management Conference, Thurgoona, Australia, 21st - 25th May, 2007 | Source of Publication: | Proceedings of the 5th Australian Stream Management Conference - Australian rivers: making a difference, p. 300-305 | Publisher: | Charles Sturt University | Place of Publication: | Online | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 040602 Glaciology | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 960905 Farmland, Arable Cropland and Permanent Cropland Water Management | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E1 Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://www.csu.edu.au/research/ilws/news/events/5asm/docs/proceedings/Page_Ken_300.pdf http://www.csu.edu.au/research/ilws/news/events/5asm/proceedings.htm |
