Abstract: The number of complementary weight-loss supplements available on the market is increasing rapidly. In this article, the pharmacological mechanisms and the evidence for efficacy surrounding the sale and adjunctive use of several complementary supplements for the treatment of obesity will be discussed. The complementary therapies to be considered are green tea, chromium, hydroxycitric acid (Garcinia cambogia), ephedra (Ma huang) and chitosan.
