Abstract: | | Bhutan's conservation efforts, guided by our visionary monarchs, have been rewarding in the sense that we have propelled into the 21st century as the champion and leader in environmental conservation in the world. Conservation of iconic and keystone species both at species level and landscape level has been our priority for bringing far-reaching impacts to the overall biodiversity conservation. Snow leopard (Panthera uncia) is a flagship species for the high mountain ecosystems of Bhutan, the conservation of which supports numerous species and livelihoods for a vast number of highland communities bringing in tremendous socio-ecological role in the mountain landscapes.
