dc.description.abstract |
Using data from the Three-mm Ultimate Mopra Milky Way Survey (ThrUMMS) of the area of Galactic longitude 300°-360° and Galactic latitude within 1° of the Galactic equator, the presence of the cyanogen radical (CN) was searched for and found in cold dark clouds, with the ultimate aim of building up a database which can be used for compiling measurements on the magnetic fields in these areas, which can be used in the future towards understanding of star formation.

Areas where there was detectable presence of the CN molecule have been bootstrapped from areas where 12CO is present. Results of initial detections in thirteen of the 19 areas found by Fast Mapping with the Mopra radio telescope in the Three Millimeter Ultimate Mopra Milky Way Survey were rescanned using Slow Mapping in 2015. Using appropriate approximations and assumptions when required from the data we have determined integrated intensities, velocities, excitation temperatures, kinematic distances, column densities and masses, and their error margins.

The uses to which the data can be put are discussed and compared with similar surveys, such as CHaMP, MALT90 and MALT-45.
| en |
