Abstract: Video compression standards operate by removing redundancy in the temporal, special, and even frequency domains. Temporal redundancy is usually removed by motion compensated prediction resulting in Inter-, Intra-, Bidirectional- frames. However, video coding standards do not specify the encoding process but the bit stream. Thus one of the key tasks of any implementations of such standards is to estimate the modes of frames as well as macro blocks. In this article we propose a novel technique for this purpose.
