Title: | Water requirements for earthworms 'Eisenia andrei' grown exclusively on broiler litter | Contributor(s): | Turnell, James Robert (author); Hinch, Geoffrey (author) ; Faulkner, Richard David (author) | Publication Date: | 2007 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/4414 | Abstract: | The use of vermiculture to value-add to broiler litter (BL) has been seen as problematic due to the high levels of uric acid and salts in poultry manure. Results from this experiment indicate that these issues can be overcome with frequent watering over the first 8 days of the system's operation. The conversion of BL into vermicast was maximised with twice daily applications of 100 and 200ml of water. These frequent water applications also led to average total mortality being lower and healthier earthworms. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | APSS 2007: 19th Annual Australian Poultry Science Symposium, Sydney, Australia, 12 - 14 February, 2007 | Source of Publication: | Proceedings of the Australian Poultry Science Symposium, v.19, p. 50-54 | Publisher: | University of Sydney, Poultry Research Foundation | Place of Publication: | Sydney, Australia | ISSN: | 1034-6260 1034-3466 |
