Abstract: The health promoting school (HPS) approach, conceived originally in the United Kingdom, spread widely in Europe during the late 1980s with significant support from the European Office of the World Health Organization (WHO). A health promoting school seeks to balance the health curriculum and classroom teaching with an approach that involves structural, organizational, and economic or political change for improved health.
