Title: | Shadows of Ovid’s Metamorphoses in the Orlando Innamorato | Contributor(s): | Taylor, Tristan (author) | Publication Date: | 2018 | Open Access: | Yes | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/31298 | Open Access Link: | https://www.ascs.org.au/news/index.html | Abstract: | Ovid's Metamorphoses is an important intertext for Boiardo's Quattrocento epic, the Orlando Innamorato. This paper examines two principal ways in which Boiardo exploits his classical intertext: as a source of allegory, and as a means of heroic characterisation. Boiardo follows the Medieval tradition of exploiting Ovid as a source of allegorical tales, often modifying the Ovidian original to clarify the moral. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | ASCS 39: Australasian Society for Classical Studies 39th Annual Meeting and Conference, Brisbane, Australia, 30th January - 2nd February, 2018 | Source of Publication: | Australasian Society for Classical Studies Annual Conference Abstracts Booklet, p. 89-90 | Publisher: | University of Queensland | Place of Publication: | Brisbane, Australia | Fields of Research (FoR) 2020: | 470513 Latin and classical Greek literature 470518 Literature in Italian |
