Abstract: In this chapter we discuss writing for publication, with a focus on practical advice to clearly define writing as a reflexive learning process and a means of adding to the health care knowledge base. The chapter includes key messages about writing style, different types of writing and publication processes, as well as reference to ethical and authorship issues. This narrative chapter provides information on the purpose of writing for publication, how to plan the writing process, the different types of writing, the submission of manuscripts for publication and issues of authorship and copyright. Throughout this chapter, boxed text inserts provide key points and practical tips, web links and case studies, including examples that will assist you to publish successfully.
