A government program to run podiatrist clinics in the Northern Territory where such professionals seldom set foot was seized by the Yirrkala Health Centre and turned into an inaugural Diabetes Day. Health professionals in the areas of diabetes education, nutrition, eye health and chronic disease were brought together for this first-time event to treat and educate diabetic patients and clinic staff about the complications and management of diabetes in the remote setting. The day was a success for the patients and health workers, and provided something to build upon for the future.en
