Abstract: Drawing on contemporary theoretical and methodological perspectives in research and pedagogical practice in early childhood education (ECE), we scrutinize trends and challenges in ECE and outdoor play and learning. We argue that these different perspectives construct children and childhood (and ECE) in particular ways and contribute to our knowledge of relationships between children, nature and culture.
