Within Australia, 25 April is one of the biggest days of each year. That day is known as Anzac Day, and it is a day Australians use to commemorate or remember the contribution that Australians have made to the military throughout the nation’s history. It is a public holiday, and throughout the country hundreds of thousands of Australians gather in local war memorials and civic centres to observe and participate in solemn commemorative services. This paper explores why this day is so important to Australians, and how it developed as such.en
