The use of Student Profiles or Records of Achievement as a curriculum tool for science teaching in an English School is described. With suitable advance planning, implementation is straight-forward and the results of this study indicated that Student Profiles could be effective with both able and less able students. The use of profiles was found to enhance the teaching and learning of science by increasing motivation and providing a good summary of student cognitive development. A case is made for trialing similar profiles in developing countries in an attempt to evaluate their effectiveness in a non-Western context.en
