Several studies have suggested an increase of body dissatisfaction and eating disorders among females. Current research also shows a growth of similar cases among males. In recent years there has been an expansion in media images objectifying men, and these images of males are becoming increasingly muscular. Naked, muscular torsos are now frequently used in advertising. This paper explores how the ideal masculine body has become increasingly muscular in the last years, through an extensive review of literature. Children exposure to superheroes, and to action toys in particular, is a possible cause. Finally, the potential influence of this phenomenon in Physical Education classes is addressed.en
