The annual volume from the Australian Folklore Association is a sequel to both that body's own earlier publications and to the various and developing strands observable in folklorics both here and overseas. ... Our international exchanges have continued and been added to, as has the list of countries whose scholars we have published. The distant refereeing of longer theoretical and comparative pieces has continued and in next year's issue we hope to list our wider range of consultant board members contributing editors. The present volume is also concerned to honour the several decades of highly significant folkloric and folk-sympathetic writing and collecting by William Neville (Bill) Scott in this his seventy-fifth year. Due to publishing deadlines, it has not been possible to include an overseas tribute to Bill's contemporary legend work by the eminent English scholar, Gillian Bennett in the present issue, but it will appear in 'Australian Folklore' No. 14 in 1999.en
