This report outlines the results of an investigation into the History units and majors structure at the University of New England (UNE) as a response to the National Disciplinary Standards. The findings have been drawn from interviews with staff and analysis of Unit information and evaluations. The report includes a comparative analysis of other universities and their responses to national standards, and an explanation of two national bodies: Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and the Higher Education Standards Panel (HESP). Given the current uncertainty about these bodies and the impact on history in universities, I have made two recommendations. Firstly, the UNE History team: Begin a process of reshaping and articulation of learning outcomes in line with the national standards and secondly: Establish foundational, consolidation and capstone units. This report acknowledges that this is a significant undertaking at a time when staff are already overstretched; however, I would argue it is imperative History at UNE keeps pace with the disciplinary practices, builds upon current strengths and remains a competitive player in the field of history in higher education.en
