Title: | A Genetic Analysis of Sow Longevity | Contributor(s): | Crump, RE (author) | Publication Date: | 2001 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/1078 | Abstract: | Sow longevity, measured in terms of final parity attained, was analysed by a variety of methods, including survival analysis, linear model and generalised linear mixed model approaches. Heritability estimates ranging from 0.11 to 0.21 were obtained from the different analyses. Non-survival analysis methods did not perform well as alternatives to survival analysis. Evidence of low, unfavourable genetic correlations with average daily gain and ultrasonic backfat depth was found. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | AAABG 2001: 14th Conference of the Association for the Advancement of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Queenstown, New Zealand, 30th July - 2nd August, 2001 | Source of Publication: | Proceedings of the Association for the Advancement of Animal Breeding and Genetics, v.14, p. 223-226 | Publisher: | Association for the Advancement of Animal Breeding and Genetics (AAABG) | Place of Publication: | Armidale, Australia | ISSN: | 1328-3227 | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 070201 Animal Breeding | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E1 Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://www.aaabg.org/ http://www.aaabg.org/livestocklibrary/2001/ab01053.pdf |
