Abstract: Most creativity research in music studies in compositions and improvisations (see Auh, 2000 for detailed review of creativity research in music). Few have studied creativity in music performance, and even fewer, if any, creativity in music performance of Korean Pansori (Auh & Walker, 2001). In Korean music and music education research, creativity research is rare, and creativity research using Korean traditional music is almost non-existent (Auh & Walker, 2001). The lack of research on creativity in Korean traditional music and the investigators' interests in creativity research prompted this study. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate concepts of creativity in music performance of Korean traditional folk music, Pansori. First, Korean traditional folk music, Pansori is explained to give background information necessary to understand the Pansori music used in this study. Then, methods of the study and results are presented. The findings of this study are summarized in Discussion.
