The professionalization creates a high impact on the business competitiveness, in particular on family businesses where these processes are particularly complex. This research aimed at identifying the determinants of success in the family businesses professionalization process. Based on the opinions of academic staff, consultants, family business' managers and entrepreneurs who have experienced this type of process, it was determined that the variables that explain the most the success of this type of process are the ability to adapt to changes and the control of the processes. On the other hand, the variables that explain the least are the ability to share tasks by the owner and the incorporation of non-family executives through competitive processes. This research confirms the variables found in the literature and additionally proposes a factorial model that groups these variables in a more precise and understandable manner. Further studies may try to gain a better and deeper understanding of this phenomenon, improving the sample's size and representativeness and investigating the impact of variables such as culture or the type of industry.en
