dc.description.abstract | This entry outlines mating systems that result in information, genetic merit, and maintenance of genetic diversity in animal breeding programs. The potential roles of reproductive technologies, genetic markers, in vitro mating systems, and heterosis are introduced. Finally, tactical mating systems that exploit the actual prevailing animals and other conditions can be used to integrate technical, cost, and logistical factors. This permits flexibility and opportunism that are not afforded by following the fixed rules set down by strategic mating systems. | en |
