dc.description.abstract | This paper continues the theme of Debus (2007a,b), by reporting on the bird communities of bushland remnants on the Sunshine Coast and hinterland, another rapidly urbanising area in south-east Queensland. There is one previous inventory of the birds of a site in the relevant area (Roberts & Ingram 1976). Again, this study is a "snapshot" inventory of the birds of various bushland locations around the Sunshine Coast, resulting from bird surveys conducted as part of environmental assessments for development proposals. It similarly presents a baseline for future surveys, which might test the persistence of certain species, or any predictions about impacts or any mitigation proposals made in the environmental assessment documents (cf. Debus 2007a). The present study includes a case study of shorebirds on Bribie Island; the intention of the developer was to move an existing anthropogenic roost site offshore to a specially created sand island in Pumicestone Passage. | en |
