The Workers' University: Australia's Marx schools

Abstract

This chapter offers a unique insight into the largely unwritten history of radical adult education in Australia by examining the educational work of the Australian Communist Party. University adult educators who wish to develop their links with contemporary social movements have much to learn from this invisible and suppressed tradition of connecting learning with struggle. The Australian case is presented as a microcosm of more universal problems and possibilities in reconnecting education with social and political action.
