Knowledge Reuse and Management in Information Systems

Abstract

Knowledge management and knowledge reuse have become an integral part of modern day business and cover a large proportion of professionals in the small and medium size companies. This thesis describes research work in the field of knowledge reuse and management in the information systems. Due to lack of adequate knowledge reuse and management, and applications of related tools, managers find themselves in a dilemma to facilitate reuse and manage. To overcome this problem new knowledge management and knowledge reuse styles have been identified. Processes in the Nonaka and Takeuchi, (1995) model (like socialisation, combination, internalization and externalization (SECI)) have been extended to three dimensional environments. As a result, four new knowledge conversion styles and four new knowledge reuse styles are recognized. In the present work, we have five goals of empirical exploration, which are: (a) to explore analytically a three dimensional knowledge management model where knowledge reuse plays a key role (b) to validate proposed four knowledge management styles (c) to validate proposed four knowledge reuse styles (d) to validate the involvement of information and communication technology in the application of knowledge management styles and (e) to recognize the variations in organizational performance depending on these eight styles.
