dc.description.abstractThis book represents a valuable resource to anyone seeking a down-to-earth discussion on critical literacy as a concise critique of "relationships among language use, social practice and power" (p. vii). This book would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to any pre-service teacher and/or practicing teacher's library. The book's overall design is that of an approachable and direct discussion on critical literacy. Its somewhat short length (some 121 pages) is testimony to this as well as its ability to appeal to a reader looking for a 'short and sharp' and current response to key issues on critical literacy. It appears then, that the authors have strategically sought to target their book to such a market.en
