Abstract: | | A complex undertaking, sustainable development includes aspects of the social, political, economic, ethical, environmental, and psychological domains. This change is mostly centered on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to solve global issues, including poverty, hunger, inequality, illness, ignorance, and environmental degradation. It takes a well-defined activity structure backed by rules, policies, and laws. In the Global South, in particular, where short-term political concerns and little bureaucratic support can impede development, strengthening governance mechanisms is essential. Governments need to support adaptable changes and include sustainability ideas in all aspects of the system. The creation and implementation of sustainable development projects depend on international legal agreements and principles. States are entitled to exploit their resources in compliance with their own environmental and development policies, but people and civil society must participate. Local circumstances and needs must be reflected in national policies and plans. The SDG framework for action demands a thorough policy framework, robust institutions, policy consistency, and a thorough approach to tackling problems, including gender equality, health, education, and climate change. While giving social and human development priority, South Asia needs to modify its policies to align with global objectives. Its population, socioeconomic issues, and common cultural traditions all had a big influence on how far the SDGs are implemented, and, in this case, the major instrument is SDG 16 or good governance.
