Abstract: A study into visiting in nursing homes conducted in the New England area of New South Wales has found most residents have just two visitors each month, representing only a small proportion of their social network. Although the residents in the study had social networks averaging 17 people, only two people visited the resident once per month or more. The most frequent visitors were the residents' spouses and children living within 15 kilometres of the nursing home, with younger relatives or friends mainly absent.
