dc.description.abstractThis chapter presents a case study of the community of Guyra, a small town on the New England Tablelands in northern New South Wales. Guyra was chosen because it is illustrative of many of the smaller towns in inland Australia that have traditionally been 'service centres' for the grazing industries, but which for a number of reasons have gradually been declining in terms of both population and socio-economic function, at least relative to larger rural towns.en
