Island (ISSN: 1035-3127) is a premium Australian literary magazine of fiction, poetry, nonfiction and arts features published by 'Island Magazine Inc.'en
A Scree of Lantana functions as an allegory for colonisation by linking hunting with descriptions of distinct Australian flora and fauna, emphasising the complex and fraught interaction between native and introduced species. Stringam (2000) argues that hunting stories have historically been used to represent (male) coloniser’s domination (81). Given Australia’s distinct history of violent and, arguably ongoing, colonisation, characters who shoot guns in Australian fiction evoke these earlier representations.en
