This translation is part of a special issue of Babel, titled: 2018 National French Conference Special Issue. The original piece was written in French by Christian Ollivier.en
In this conference keynote presentation, Ollivier argues for authentic learning that involves "real-world tasks and authentic activities" and activities where students can genuinely communicate, rather than producing texts and performing tasks disconnected to their reality. He links his argument to the works of French absurdist writers, and to theories of socio-interaction, and suggests that using approaches from the theatre support opportunities for ‘near’ authenticity, and meaningful engagement in the languages classroom.en
