dc.description.abstractThis dataset provides a breakdown of trades practiced by convicts at the Port Arthur penal station, Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) during the period 1830-77. The data have been drawn from the research for the ARC project Landscapes of Production and Punishment (DP170103642). Each trade has been classified according to the best-standard system, History of Work Information System (HISCO), http://historyofwork.iisg.nl/major.php. This is an active dataset and may be updated as new data is sourced.en
