Title: | Complex predication and the coverb construction | Contributor(s): | Amberber, M (author); Baker, Brett (author); Harvey, M (author) | Publication Date: | 2007 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/2253 | Abstract: | In this paper, we examine one type of complex predicate which we call the coverb construction. This construction is of interest because it raises questions for theories of basic linguistic categories, such as "verb", "compound", and "phrase". For present purposes, we adopt Butt's (2003) definition of a complex predicate. A complex predicate involves (a) two (or more) predicational elements, (b) which jointly predicate and (c) occur within a monoclausal structure (i.e., there is a single subject). | Publication Type: | Book Chapter | Source of Publication: | Language Description, History and Development: Linguistic indulgence in memory of Terry Crowley, p. 209-219 | Publisher: | John Benjamins Publishing Company | Place of Publication: | Amsterdam, Netherlands | ISBN: | 9789027252524 | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 200408 Linguistic Structures (incl Grammar, Phonology, Lexicon, Semantics) | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 970120 Expanding Knowledge in Language, Communication and Culture | HERDC Category Description: | B1 Chapter in a Scholarly Book | Publisher/associated links: | http://www.benjamins.com/cgi-bin/t_bookview.cgi?bookid=CLL%2030 http://nla.gov.au/anbd.bib-an41249303 http://books.google.com.au/books?id=Ev3Ewu9UQmgC&lpg=PP1&pg=PA209 |
