Abstract: Crocker, Sir William Charles (1886-1973), lawyer, was born at 8 Tytherton Road, Upper Holloway, London, on 19 May 1886, the son of Thomas Edward Crocker, a law clerk, and his wife, Emma, nee Whyte. Crocker served his articles of clerkship with his father and was admitted as a solicitor in 1912. Shortly before his admission, on 25 January 1911, he married Mary Madeline (1884/5-1953), daughter ofAlfred Harris Tailby, a draughtsman, with whom he had one son and five daughters. He served in the First World War, first in the Artists' Rifles and later as a second lieutenant with the 4th Dorset regiment, winning the Military Cross.
